Intolerance in India: After Shahrukh Khan, now Salman Khan breaks silence
After Shahrukh Khan's controversial statement on growing "intolerance in India", now another Bollywood superstar broke his silence. He is none other than but Salman Khan. While questioned about Shiv Sena's protest against Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali's concerts in Pune and Mumbai, Salman said that art and entertainment should not be mixed with politics.
The actor believes that art and entertainment do not have any boundaries. He was quoted as saying, "This is not what people want." "Now that everything is digital, Indians love to watch each and every entertainment show, including popular Pakistani shows. So, art and entertainment have no boundaries. Entertainment is evaluated by what common people want to watch," he added.
Speaking about a Pakistani artist's work in India, Salman said, "If someone wants a Pakistani actor who can portray a role better (in Indian cinema), nobody can put a constraint. Bollywood has a huge number of fans in Pakistan and earns a good share of income from the neighbouring country." Last month, popular Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali was forced to cancel his concert in Pune and Mumbai to political interference. Pakistani actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan - who have Bollywood projects in their kitty - were also targeted by the Shiv Sena.
Salman's statement came just a day after Shahrukh's statement which created a new controversy in the country. The King Khan of Bollywood supported the authors and artists who have returned their awards protesting against the growing intolerance in the country.
